New copyright law would cut artists’ earnings

Imagine that you are a fruit farmer. You grow apples in your orchard. Then imagine that the federal government introduced a new law that said you’ll get paid like you always did when people buy your apples to bake pies, but those who want to make juice from your apples can now have your apples for free.
